A short-lived but
well-loved axe from Kay, the 1413 took the surf thang and
swam with it, even to the sea-foam green of its finish (the catalog calls it
turquoise). The 1413's most famous
role was onscreen with Cap'n Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters
in the Tom Hanks '60s fantasy
' That
Thing You Do!'

The 1413 guitar
is a funky surf twanger from our friends at Kay. One pickup, volume/tone
and a fixed tailpiece made this the 'budget' electric axe of the '64/'65
seasons. The predecessor to this
guitar was the slab- bodied and similarly simple 1410. A contoured, beveled body and a big silvery
pickup made this guitar a hot item for the couple of years it was offered,
judging by today's collectors market.
Also offered, and much rarer, is the 1417, which added an interesting 'true
vibrato' mechanism.
