The 1440 was part of the late-68 'Japanese Invasion'
of the Sears catalog. Very similar to the slightly better-equipped 1445/1441,
our Japanese friends (Teisco, most likely) outfitted the 1440 with a white pickguard, two
adjustable-pole pickups, slide selector switches, a volume/volume/tone
electronic network, and threw in a whammy bar, zero fret and adjustable truss
rod. The 1440 headstock did not change from the sharpened 'Fenderish' look,
unlike the multi-headed 1445/41.
