Silvertone guitars and amps have frequently been modified. Some for good, some for ill. I call them all "Frankentones."

I guess it was because of their low price, and the low esteem that Silvertones used to be held in... they weren't Fenders or Gibsons or Gretsches; so what the heck - lop off the headstock, cut off a bout, route a big hole for a cheap humbucker, paint it some wacky color, put the amp in a suitcase... there's a laboratory full of Silvertones that just weren't... right in their owner's eyes, so they remade them.
