The 'Amp In Case' era began in 1962, when Daniel and
Fisher put their heads together and came up with a price/feature set that
appealed to thousands of families across the country.
The 1448/57 combos sold and sold and sold, and that's why we have such an
active collecting market in those instruments today. The solidbody
'replacements' for those ground-breaking instruments, the 1451 and 1452, never
really had a chance to sell in large numbers, as Danelectro's fortunes fell in
the late 60s after their sale to MCA.
By the time Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, the proud name of Silvertone was a memory fast
fading from the halls of Sears, Roebuck & Co.
